I spent the weekend working on my latest book, which will come out in print in a few months. It explores a lot of different aspects of my personal journey and ones I feel you'll relate to.
One these I explored was the victim mentality.
Many of us (not everyone) unconsciously play victim to our circumstances. You may think you don't, I used to think so too. Until I looked closely at my journey. Naturally, when we turn on all the lights, we come to find a whole bunch of creatures we didn't know were lurking in our minds.
Boy do we make life difficult for ourselves at times, especially in those moments when we know the actions we must take in our heart and on the outside we fight it. We struggle with taking action, or following through or just being with what is.
I get it, sometimes you don't want to play stuck in the mud anymore! Sometimes you don't want to feel all those painful feelings inside your chest that you can't escape from. Some days you want to know what the future holds because not knowing is too big of a surprise!
You know, it's taken me 3 goes to sit down to realise what it is I was going to share with you this week...and it only just dawned on me when I went downstairs to make a cup of tea, give it some space...and scrub the burnt pot.
The pot. Well, it's been sitting there for a week. I've had a few attempts, with bi-carb, Ajax, dish wash liquid - sponges, scourers, stainless steel scrubbing wool all with little luck - Aside from the fact I think my right bicep has grown.
So why am I sharing this?
Well, here's what hit me in my latest 5minute date with the burnt pot.
Regardless of the days we want to throw our hands in the air, yell a stream of obscenities and quit upon our crazy-ass dreams, we carry on.
Why? Because the feeling in our hearts is so much stronger than all the set backs. Even when we tell ourselves we quit, we come back the next day or the next hour spurred on by a silent whisper in our hearts that says, "Just try again!" And so we do.
I thought it would be fun to share with you the joys and absurdity of recording podcasts (in case you thought it was as simple as brushing your teeth with your eyes shut). Let me just say, thank goodness I'm a bit techy - probably one of the greatest aspects of my skillset that I've honed over the past 10 years. So here we go...
Life can be so very fragile. We have little control over some of the most important things. One silly accident can change everything. And yet, we often find ourselves worrying excessively about the future and things that are out of our control.
It is easy to put away our dreams and passions for later. We tell ourselves we will do them in the future and later turns into never. Well, maybe we are not supposed to wait for later, maybe now is the time to open that box of dreams and follow your heart, because later is an illusion.
What sits in Your Heart?
Having what you love is very simple, but we complicate it. This is a question that can change every little thing about your life. It's a question that you can ask yourself anytime to realize what it is that you love:
What is it that sits in your heart?
You see, what you love does not come into your heart to tease you. What you love comes into your heart because it is coming to fruition, if you give it love, if you give it space, if you simply have the courage to acknowledge it.
There is nothing I love more than being moved by love.
And I'm not talking about romantic love. I'm talking about that deep and wholesome love that pumps energy through my veins that opens my heart and enables me to feel with the very body I reside in.
I love the feeling of being in the moment when there is a power source moving me to express who I am in the ways it loves to. Nothing delights me more than a moment, a minute, a second, or days where I lose myself to myself and be myself, here and now.
We are each born with the gift of individual expression, yet I also know that not everyone (including myself in the past) uses their gifts. I feel this comes down to either:
1. Not being fully aware of what your gift/talents are or,
2. Knowing what they are but not yet being aware of how best to use them.
Through my experience, I also know that both aspects play a part in the journey of getting to know ourselves. I know that with dedication and consistent steps toward knowing yourself, you too can discover how best to express yourself and how you may choose to serve the world.
