We are each born with the gift of individual expression, yet I also know that not everyone (including myself in the past) uses their gifts. I feel this comes down to either:
1. Not being fully aware of what your gift/talents are or,
2. Knowing what they are but not yet being aware of how best to use them.
Through my experience, I also know that both aspects play a part in the journey of getting to know ourselves. I know that with dedication and consistent steps toward knowing yourself, you too can discover how best to express yourself and how you may choose to serve the world.
I’d bought my morning coffee and was sitting at the set of traffic lights, for some reason they were taking longer than normal. I remember thinking it was a bit strange (since I do the same run each day) however, I wasn’t in any rush and remember feeling particularly connected and at peace with myself on this morning.
When social media uses you, you have lost yourself in a world that doesn’t exist. You get sucked into a vortex of illusory fame, selfies, possessions and the amazing and completely fulfilled and happy lives of people, who aren’t even living that life themselves. Your usage of this social phenomenon has become a mindless activity helping you fill the void within yourself.
I frequently get asked by young kids, wanting to know how to become a ‘rock star.’
The last few days I’ve been asked every day, as being on the road I encounter many people from all walks of life. Especially when I am invited into people's homes and play my very personal and much loved House Concerts. Most kids I meet want to try out for the next TV show and they seem to want to be a celebrity and the idea a music career will make life better. That’s cool, but there are many sides to that great story-
Their disengagement does not mean they’re disinterested, simply that they prefer to spend the time they have wisely and purposefully. Their quietness does not necessarily mean ‘I am angry, sad, moody, unhappy or something is wrong’, it simply means that they enjoy the solitude and the time spent in Being and breathing. Their perceived detachment doesn’t signify that they are cold or do not care, rather that they understand the ever-changing nature of this life; some things come; some things go.
This message is a reminder that you're never alone and you can get through this.... Whatever 'this' is for you.
There are times that our heart speaks louder than our mind. In those very moments we can choose to follow the whispers of heart or follow the head. The heart says, "it's possible" the head says "nonsense". The head is logical, it reminds us of our fears, what could go wrong and what we can lose.
